Self-Portraits

For this project I had a lot of different ideas. Although a lot of them did no workout, they still captured some really good moments. I think I had to take so many pictures that were the same to find one that I liked. During this project I had to change a lot of thing, like the light or position I was in. The two pictures I like the best are the light and meaningful portraits. I picked these two because they really express the true me. I think it was really difficult to try and get the right amount of light and space. I like how sometimes when you don’t mean or like the idea, the picture still has a chance of turning out good.

In a few of my portrait there were some “Happy accidents” and some that were set up. I think that some of my pictures have good value and meaning. Even though there are something’s I could of and would like to do different, I think they turned out good. The picture that I think has most composition is the meaningful portrait. The portrait I think has the least I would have to say is the line photograph. The reason I think this is because, I think I could use more action.

Trying to take the most perfect picture is not always as easy as you plan. You always have those that are to bright or dark. I struggle with is a lot, but if you keep trying they start to get better. One way I found that helped me is, to take the picture over and over until it’s the way you want. For some photos this problem might mess up the moment. The photo that I think have the least craftsmanship is the line photo. In this photo I look like there is too much going on. But then when I start to think like that I stop and think “well, will the photo not have as much meaning if there were less going on?”

Even though I think there are a lot of things I could have done better, I think they turned out pretty good. If I had to do this again I would think of changing the light and positions. The picture I liked the best would have to be the meaningful because I got to use something important to me. The photo I like the least would have to be the rule of thirds because it doesn’t have that many details in it.

Light Metering

In this photograph we were working with metering. In the first photo on the left I tried to make the light from the computer stand out more. In order to have this work, I had to get really close to the computer and hold the shutter button half way and pull back from the object. See how the computer is brighter than the person.... In the second picture I tried to make the person stand out and everything else become darker. Using metering it allowed me to make her (light) skin stand out really bright. I had to get really close to her skin and push hold the button down half way and pull back. It is important to know how to use this because if ever you are in a dark area and you need something to stand out or make brighter it will allow you to do this.

HYBRID

An exercise borrowed from “I’ve Got a Human in My Throat” by Chris Johnson.
In preparation for our PERSONAL METAPHOR project we brushed up our skills combining objects together. Using layer masks and the clone stamp we blended this dog and bird together.

chocolate frog

We made a chocolate frog in honor of Valentines Day. For this project we turned a real frog into a fake chocolate frog. In this assignment we used photoshop. This was a very interesting and fun project to do, it was funny to see how they all turned out.

Shadows and Reflections

Today we worked on two different Photoshop exercises. We learned how to make shadows and reflections. The purpose of the lesson today was to work on improving our photoshop. With reflections and shadows it make the picture look more realistic.

Program Covers

This is the program cover I did for graduation.

Aged Photo

In this project we were suppost to take one of our frame pictures and create an old looking photo. On Photoshop we messed around with the contrast and levels. We tried to make the photo looked aged.

Balance and Frames

In this project we were given a frame. We had to use it in our composition. We also had to be in our photo, but not in the center. It was to be in black and white, and we needed to create a sense of visual balance.
We were supposts to be creative and try to have balance and no balance. It was every hard! This picture also had to work with contrast. Do you think this has balance? Well the shadow gives this picture balance even though it might not look like it does.

Random Object

In this assinment we all got assigned a random object. We were suppost to take a picture useing the three "Cs". One thing my class mates said needed to be better was how the picture came out blury. They also said that it might of been better in black and white. I agree 100%!

my favorite project last semester

I picked this project because it tells a lot about the meanings in my life. We had to do a project on what gives are life meaning, and one of the things that gave my life meaning was family. this picture was my favorite because it captors a caring moment. This picture was ment to be in black and white, and i think this was ment to be a B&W moment.
